Should I convert my distribution group to security group to add folder permissions, or create a new group

I’m trying to get all staff access to one specific folder on the drive they don’t have access to, however that group is a distribution list so I can’t give access until it’s a security group. Would it be a good idea to convert it to security group, and then give them the access that they need? Or should I create a new group altogether?
